Fellowship in Florence, Italy
A Fellowship from the United States Institute for Theater and Technology and a University Research Council Grant from Youngstown State University allowed me to study Renaissance decorative painting techniques and materials in the Florenceart artisan studio.
I was mentored by three professional artisans. Ms. Alison Woolley is the studio owner and an expert in decorative painting. Master artisan Marco Cavallini helped me learn the fresco process as well as some Venetian plasters techniques. He is an expert in illusionist wall decoration, conservation and antique painting techniques.
Roberto Passeri, a master gilder and restorer, showed the techniques involved in water gilding.
